Two minutes after the last post...
I will not be paying a gazillion dollars for your overpriced funnel cake, California State Fair.
So there!
Little help here?

No idea who these folks are. Love Google Image search. Why?
Well, it's something to do, and if you really try, it's probably possible to ignore the appalling capitalism and have a good time.
And I want funnel cake. State Fair has funnel cake.
But I don't want to pay for it. The fair, I mean. I've accepted that I must pay the $56 (roughly) for some funnel cake with strawberries on top. (Well, I'll still get mad about it when the time comes--does that negate my acceptance?)
I don't want to pay $60 for two "unlimited rides" wristbands to save $24 on admission when I have little to no interest in their rides. I'm no mathmetician, but I know that ain't right.
I'd be totally okay with, like, buying a meal somewhere or donating something to some cause and getting free admission passes that way. (Aren't I the philanthropist.)
Holla back!
You know, it can't be that hard to make your own dang funnel cake...

Yummy, orangey goodness!....

This is far from being a good picture of me, but I hate it when people have kids and then you never ever see the parents' faces on their own blogs again, so here ya go. :) (Why is it that I've been weight-lifting faithfully for over a month and my arm still looks all beefy? Oh yeah, because I always pull them in against my side for pictures...darn reflex...)Oh, and he is now (or as of yesterday) 18 lbs, 26 and 3/4 in. And heavy to carry around! :)

Scratch that, actually, and make it two!
So Jamie's two bottom front teeth have both come in, or rather are still coming up, and we think he might be getting more because he continues to be fussy. I don't blame him, those little suckers are sharp!
On the solid foods front: We've tried pureed green beans, and he wasn't having that. (I really don't blame him on that. They smelled awful and looked like pureed Kermit.) He was looking at us like, "Why are you torturing me? I thought you loved me!" Today I made more and mixed just one baby spoonful in with his regular barley cereal and formula, and although he made an Ick face at first, he did eagerly finish the whole bowl. So I'm going to keep upping it little by little and see how far he'll let me go.
It is so much fun making baby food (I'll probably be sick of it by like, the fourth kid, but I love filling those ice cube trays for now!) and knowing that I'm saving money and giving Jamie wholesome, fresh foods! Check out the website that is my homemade baby food Bible. They clearly don't proofread like they should, and the typos bug me, but other than that it's been great, very informative and helpful.

The first tooth has arrived!
Last night, while visiting friends in our ward, I gave Jamie my finger to suck on, and FINALLY felt that little tooth that we’d been suspecting was the culprit of his grumpiness a little while ago. It’s funny how excited we were. I think having the first kid is kind of like having plants; it’s really exciting to see them grow, even though that’s exactly what they’re supposed to do, because you’re the one taking care of them and enabling them to do so. If that makes sense. :)
Is it stupid that I’m actually kind of sad that Jamie won’t completely have his gummy little smile anymore, and that I won’t be able to give him my finger to chew on? I mean, yes, it’s a milestone and all, but what good does just one tooth do, anyway? It’s just there. All his foods still have to be liquid or pureed. And that one little milestone is a change. Me no like change! CHANGE BAD!
Changes are signs that my sweet, precious baby is getting more independent and needing me less every day.
And actually, if he grabs my finger and chomps before I can stop him, which does happen, I could end up in the emergency room on account of that sharp little sucker…
Don’t worry, I’m not real upset; just playing up the drama to make you all laugh. Of course I want my son to progress.
Sort of. :)
I was a little off in my measurements. He is 17 lbs 11 oz, 27 in, for all you wonderful family members who want to know. We went to his first California pediatrician appointment today, and let’s just say there are things about Idaho that are waaaaaaaay better than here.
And one more thing, to brag a little: Jason and the baby and I went on a walk this evening, and even though I really didn’t feel like it, I also lifted weights and did my abs routine. Most of my pre-Jamie pants are a lost cause—not like exercise will push my hips back in—but I want to fit the ones that are possible, dangit!
