Jamie's Blanket and Bedroom

I used the leftover material from Jamie's curtains to make a matching blanket, and thought I'd post a few pictures for the heck of it. I had one long skinny piece, so I cut it in half and carefully pieced it together. Then I bought a bigger piece of flannel and some batting.

You can't tell, right?
I think, besides it matching the curtains (not a lot of our stuff matches--we're poor, so it's mostly castoffs or hand-me-downs), I'm proud of it because I made it twice.

Wha?

Well, the first time I got the flannel all lined up, pinned, and sewn, I used a darker blue thread and a straight stitch, which really just did not work very well. It made the fabric bunch horribly instead of laying flat, and I ended up spending something like two hours ripping it out.

On the second try, I used white thread and a zigzag stitch, which worked SO much better.

I went to take pics of it actually in Jamie's bed, and I put him in it so you'd get the full effect. He didn't like that so much.
Here's the curtain.

Here's a horribly blurry picture of the awesome, fabulous blackout material doing its job. You should see it in our room, where it's just tacked over the window on the wall above. Ghetto, but SO good for the AC bill and for getting to sleep past sunrise, as the sun blasts our window in the mornings.

I made this for Jamie a few days before he was born. It hangs by his door.

Bigger picture.

I wish I could decorate more, but I do the best I can.

I love it! You are very talented, the quilt looks perfect. I also love the sign above the change table =)

Uh yeah I have to agree that the sign above Jamies changing table is hilarious! You did a great job on his blanket! I wish I had a sewing machine, or that I was talented enough with my hands to make something like that. Someday...:)

I love that poem! I've never heard it before, where did you get it? You are so awesome. Sewing is not even on my list of stuff I'm capable of. In fact I just sent some fabric off with my mom the other day to sew FOR me:) I cheat:)

It turned out really cute. The look on Jamie's face matched his adorable PJs. Cute.
