Buttercup Bag

A couple of weeks ago, actually--just haven't gotten around to blogging about it--I had a couple of late-night crafting sessions. Hubby went to bed early (worn out from the rigors of a master's program), so I had fun cutting, measuring, and sewing along to "Thoroughly Modern Millie" in the background. (Weird movie, by the way. I Netflixed it.) At the end of those two nights, I had this:

Well, I had already made the coin purse.

I just realized, I should have said right off--I used a pattern! Ha! I'm SO not that talented, that I could make this up. But Rae, who designed the pattern, definitely is. She is also generous, because she put it on her website FO FREE!

I found this pattern to be very easy to follow. I took a beginning sewing class in high school, so I don't know if it would be Greek to someone without "formal training," but I doubt it. It's well-marked, well-explained, and she even includes pictures of the parts that otherwise might be a little confusing.

Here is where you can go to her site, Made By Rae, and get the pattern if you're interested. She just asks that you not sell bags you make from it. Fair enough, I think. However, she sells a larger version of it for $10 (the free one is a small bag, indeed) and says you can sell as many as you want if you just pay her that initial $10.

Here is where I came across it--on a different blog where it was linked. They showed different variations they made, and explained how to attach the magnetic clasp, which I found helpful. (Since my camera isn't so great, you can see the purse design in better detail there.)

I've finished the church bag, and really want to show it off (I learned a few things from making the Buttercup Bag that came in handy for the church bag), but it's late and I need to be responsible. :P

If you felt so inclined to make another purse and dump it on someone, I'm officially volunteering!
